Did you know that many of our sweet, warm culinary herbs come from trees? Herbs like cinnamon, cloves, allspice and star anise all come from trees. We are studying trees and herbs from trees at preschool this month so naturally we are playing around with these well-loved and well-known herbs.

Have you ever smelled fresh lemon balm? Nibbled a fresh leaf or tasted lemon balm tea? It is tastes absolutely delicious and smells divine. To me it is the smell of happy. Our preschool has a lovely, lush patch of lemon balm growing right in the backyard. We made good use of it last week on lemon balm day.

Read MoreThe new school year at preschool has found us busily learning about plants before they go to sleep for the winter. We have paid special attention to plants in the mint family as there are some many of them that the children are familiar with and we use a lot of them during the school year. We have explored what a plant is and what makes a plant green? We have also asked what makes certain plants smell so nice? And how can we tell a if a plant is in the mint family?

Read MoreBaby rosebuds have always been a favorite of mine and the kids I teach love them too. When we use baby rosebuds for crafting and creating there are always plenty of “ooh's and ah’s” with lots of delighted little fingers exploring the roses.
These barrettes are a wonderful project for creating something beautiful to wear that reminds us of the beauty within.
