All Natural Spiced Pumpkin Pie Playdoh

What is the perfect playdoh for a cool, brisk October day?

Warm “pumpkin pie” playdoh scented with sweet spices of course!

This playdoh is made purely of natural ingredients.  Make it with your kids for a fun Autumn afternoon and cook up some extra to hand out as a sugar-free treat for friends.

~ Ingredients ~

  • 1 cup flour

  • ½ cup salt

  • 1 ½ teaspoon cream of tartar

  • 1 tablespoon oil, I like to use coconut or olive oil

  • 1 cup of strongly brewed rooibos tea, for a lovely light orange color.  I infused about ¼ cup of loose rooibos in just over 1 cup of water for about 4 hours.

  • ground spices: cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg & allspice*

  • optional to mix in: glitter in colors like orange, red, & green*

  • optional for playing: cinnamon sticks, star anise and whole cloves, set these on the table with the playdoh or the kids to enjoy using during play.

An Interesting Note ~ did you know that all the spices in this playdoh come from trees?

~ Instructions ~

Combine all the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a pan.  Add the oil and tea, mixing well.  Cook slowly over low heat.  Stir almost constantly until the playdoh sets up.  Let the playdoh cool to warm before playing; playdoh right off the stove is hot!

*You can either add the ground spices and glitter while the playdoh is cooking or add them later while your child is playing with the playdoh.  I like to add the spices one at a time during play because the children get to really experience the individual spices and they enjoy helping to mix the spices and glitter into the playdoh.

Can’t get your hands on rooibos?  Make it simple and use plain water along a few drops of orange food coloring to create a pumpkin-y colored playdoh.  Before I had the idea to use rooibos for color we made another lovely version of pumpkin pie playdoh at preschool just using food coloring.  The kids loved it!
